Just moved into a home recently and have noticed some spots have mould coming up(baseboard and underneath furniture). Has a laminate floor which is cool to the touch. I noticed that the laminate floor is put onto the concrete with just a foam separating it from the concrete. Seems to be the way it is done around here as I have seen other homes done the same way. Have 2 questions. The plan now is to remove the existing laminate and use a 6 mm vinyl with the double dimple subfloor…or lift up the existing laminate and laying down the double dimple subfloor and then putting the laminate back. Can the double dimple be used for both types of floor? Thanks in advance.

Ross Carmen –
Yes, the double dimple can be used with laminate or vinyl plank, as long as it is a click together. You can put a layer of underlayment on top of the double dimple first, to make the floor a bit warmer, quieter, and softer to walk on.

My concrete floor already has a tack strip that is in good shape from prior carpet (~8 years old). I am replacing. The picture shows the membrane under the tack strip, but I would rather not remove it. Can I just butt the membrane up against the existing tack strip?

Ross Carmen –
Yes you can bring it to the existing tack strip. Leave 1/16″ gap.

Is the double dimple subfloor suitable for plastic backed carpet tiles installed as a floating floor, or would the smoothness of the single dimple subfloor be better? My instructions say to install directly over a flat subfloor. Thank you.
